Love Notes Special Edition: Memoirs of a Gaysian

Society Hill Dance Academy, Philadelphia, PA

Queer-Asian voices take center stage—bold stories, lush music, and a couple of cocktails on us to keep the drama flowing. On June 12, 2026, ePOP and Wear Yellow Proudly join forces to present Love Notes Special Edition: Memoirs of a Gaysian at Society Hill Dance Academy ePOP's second offering at the Philly Pride Arts Festival, this cabaret explores the unique perspectives of Queer-Asian experiences. Highlighting Queer and Asian composers and librettists, it features songs and arias from the traditional classical canon alongside works by living composers. Being Asian and being Queer are often compartmentalized - traditional family values and limited accessibility to same-sex marriages in Asian countries result in many LGBTQIA+ people being silenced. Join us for an evening where Queer-Asian artists unite these two worlds, sharing their unique stories and perspectives with you.

Memoirs of a Gaysian stars tenor Spencer Britten, countertenor Chuanyuan Liu, and pianist Jeremy Chan, whose work has been heard on stages including The Philadelphia Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Sydney Opera House, Alice Tully Hall, Wigmore Hall, and venues throughout Europe.

Memoirs of a Gaysian | New York

Red Eye NY, 355 West 41st Street , New York, NY

Memoirs of a Gaysian explores the unique stories and perspectives of Queer-Asian artists. Too often, queerness and Asian identity are compartmentalized—same-sex marriage remains inaccessible in many Asian countries, and traditional family values have long silenced LGBTQ+ voices within the community. Highlighting works by queer and Asian composers and librettists, singers Spencer Britten and Chuanyuan Liu and pianist Jeremy Chan juxtapose songs and arias from the standard repertoire with music by living composers. The beautiful union of queer and Asian identities in composer Dylan Trấn’s song cycle Ba, a setting of poetry by Ocean Vuong, intermingles with pieces by Brian C. The Seasons | Boston Lyric Opera

A group of contemporary artists comes to a retreat in nature to make their art. They feel the emotional weather inside of them more than they feel the weather outside of them. But extreme weather impacts them without warning and changes their lives forever. The Seasons is a meditation on the relationship between our contemporary moment and Vivaldi’s iconic music, which appreciated the harmonious seasons. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, paired with additional arias and ensembles by the composer, becomes an occasion for seeing our own disordered seasons more clearly.
